PSL Heroes: Shandre Campbell talking about life, football and his goal

In this edition of PSL Heroes, we turn our attention to exciting young talent Shandre Campbell.

Born on 15 July, 2005, Campbell emerges as a prominent young talent in South African football, carving his path as a left winger for SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership.

In this edition, the youngster speaks about legendry Bernard Parker’s influence on his career and the players who have influenced him.

“It’s actually crazy because Bernard Parker and my father are close friends and we used to go to his house. He always inspired me a lot,” he said.

His journey began in August 2023, a pivotal moment marked by his DStv Premiership debut against Richards Bay.

• Won the man of the match award on his DStv Premiership debut, in SuperSport United’s 2-0 win over Richards Bay on 5th August in Polokwane.

• Made and assists on his debut for SuperSport against Richards Bay in the DStv Premiership, set up fellow debutant Terrence Dzvukamanja for SuperSport’s first goal in a 2-0 win.

• South African born winger

• Hails from Johannesburg.

• Given his top-flight debut by Gavin Hunt at the age of 18 years and 21 days old.

• Made his top-flight debut 21 days after turning 18.

• 23 Appearances in all competitions in 2023/24.

• 5 goals, 5 assists in all competitions in 2023/24.

• 14 league appearances in 2023/24, scoring two goals and making four assists.

•Started 11 of the 14 league games he has appeared in this season, made three substitute appearances.

• Came through SuperSport United academy progressing through the ranks including featuring for their DDC squad.

• Started playing football at the SuperSport United Soccer Schools in Bedfordview East of Johannesburg at the age of 9.

• First goals in a 3-1 league win for SuperSport against Orlando Pirates at home on the 15th December 2023, scored both goals and made an assist.

• Joint top scorer in this season’s Nedbank Cup with three goals.

• Scored a brace for SuperSport in a 2-1 away win over Richards Bay, in a Nedbank Cup Round of 16 game on the 16th March.
