Fasil City beat Ethio Electric 2-1 on Friday to enhance their chances of finishing strong in the BetKing Ethiopa Premier League, while, Adama City produced a surprise 3-0 win over Ethiopian Insurance.
It was fireworks from the start in the Fasil-Ethio match, but the game went on for most of the first half without a goal.
However, Fasil got their breakthrough in the 40th minute when Alembirhan Yigzaw scored to give them a 1-0 lead going into the first half break.
The Emperors began the second half like a house on fire, and they were rewarded with second goal on the 50 minute mark from Ghanaian striker Mawuli Osei.
They pressed on for a third goal, but Ethio Electric pulled one back against the run of play from a counter-attack with Abdurahman Mubarek at the end of it.
The result moves Fasil up to fourth position on 42 points, while Ethio Electric remain rooted at the bottom of the log.
Adama City, who have been going through a run of poor results, meanwhile produced a remarkable start to their game against Ethiopian Insurance when Desta Yohannis put them ahead in the 32nd minute.
Ethiopian Insurance came out smoking in the second half, and they put Adama City under a great deal of pressure.
However, a resilient Adama City came back strongly late in the game and struck not once, but twice.
Biniam Ayiten increased the tally to 2-0 for Adama City on 78 minutes.
Adama's fairytale was completed on 86th minute when their talismanic striker Dawa Hotesa produced their third goal to secure a dominant victory.
The win sees Adama City rise to sixth position on 40 points, while Ethiopian Insurance will finish third no matter the outcome of remaining games this season.
