Bahir Dar City enhanced their league standings with a 2-1 win over hapless Wolkite City.

The rescheduled week 18 match played at the Dire Dawa International Stadium produced some fireworks.

The first half was goalless, but it wasn't for lack of trying by both teams.

However, the second half was the Cherinet Gugsa show as the former St George and Wolaitta Dicha star scored a brace.

Gugsa put Bahir Dar ahead in the 57th minute. Wolkite equalised in the 81st minute through Fuad Abdela and looked like they would take a point from the game.

However, Gugsa would have the last laugh as he completed his brace on 90+8 minutes, with virtually the last kick of the game.

The 2-1 win moves Bahir Dar City above Ethiopia Coffee into fourth place with 37 points.

They are just two points behind defending champions St George on 39 points, and four points behind second-placed Mekelakeya on 41 points.

CBE (Commercial Bank of Ethiopia), otherwise known as Ethiopia Nigd Bank, top the table with 46 points and a healthy goal difference of +19.
