Bahir Dar City kept up up with leaders St George in the BetKing Ethiopia League title race by recording a 3-1 win over Ethiopia Coffee on Tuesday, while Dire Dawa City beat Ethio Electric 2-0 in the day's other encounter.
Both games were staged at the Hawassa University Stadium and provided plenty of entertainment and goals.
Bahir Dar City got an early scare when they went a goal after Mohammednur Nasir scored for Ethiopia Coffee in the 24th minute.
The teams went into the break tied at 1-1 when Habtamu Tadesse, so often the instigator for Bahir Dar City, provided the equaliser on 42 minutes.
Bahir Dar went 2-1 up right after the break through Alelign Azene on 46 minutes.
Bahir Dar then put the game well beyond Ethiopia Coffee in the 86th minute when their captain, Yared Bayeh, converted a penalty to secure a comfortable win.
The Waves of Tana now move to 47 points, reducing the gap to St George to four points, while Coffee remain in sixth spot.
The game between Ethio Electric and Dire Dawa City did not produce any goals in the first half as the two sides cancelled each other out.
Dire Dawa City came to life with two late goals from Biniyam Getachew and Surafel Getachew securing a 2-0 win.
Dire Dawa move to 10th on the log with Ethio Electric languishing in relegation waters alongside Legetafo Legedadi.
