Bahir Dar shock St George, Sidama and Hadiya tie

Bahir Dar City stunned St George 2-1 Saturday when they beat the League Champions in the highly anticipated clash.

The encounter at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium produced a very explosive first half with both sides evenly matched.

However, there were no goals for the entire half until the first minute of added time when

Firaol Mengistu pounced to score the opener for the "The waves of Tana."

Bahir Dar took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, but St George came out smoking hot in the second half, stunned by the goal from Mengistu

Bahir Dar retreated and held of "the Horsemen" for all of 8 minutes before mounting a swift counterattack which produced a second goal.

It was former St George Striker, Cherinet Gugsa with the goal on 53 minutes.

St George pulled one back in the 80th minute through Amanuel Terfu but Bahir Dar held on for the remaining 10 minutes plus added time for a famous win.

It was the first loss of the season for St George who still lead the League with 13 points, same as Mekelakeya in second.

Bahir Dar jumped to 4th place on 11 points, just two points off the leaders and one behind Fasil Kenema in 3rd with 12 points.

Sidama Coffee and Hadiya Hossana finished goalless in the second game of the day.
