Mekelakeya hope to at least match Ethiopia Premier League leaders Ethiopia Nigd Bank (CBE) on points when they face Hawassa City at Adama Science and Technology University Stadium on Wednesday.

The Defence Force will be wary of losing second place to St George, who face Hadiya Hossana in the day's other match hoping to turn around their run of poor results.

Mekelakeya have 20 points, which puts them in second place, three points behind leaders CBE following their draw with St George last week after posting an impressive run of five consecutive victories.

The squad boast some quality players and they have continued to confound critics and and fans alike.

Fitsum Alemu is back after a lengthy injury to boost the team's creativity.

Zereay Mulu's Hawassa City have been able to match their early- season form when they were rubbing shoulders with the front runners as they now lie in 12th place with nine points.

They have lost their last four league matches, conceding 10 goals and only managing to score twice.

The two teams met in the Ethiopian Cup two days ago, with Hawassa City triumphing 3-0.

Hadiya Hosaena and Saint George, meanwhile, will play their 10th match of the season.

Hadiya Hosaena have managed to notch back to back wins after an eight-game losing streak. They beat Fasil City 2-1 and Adama City 2-1.

Hadiya possess the league's second-best defence as they have conceded only six goals in nine matches.

However, their attacking form is one of the worst in the league as they have only netted six goals.

St George won their last two matches and have the best attacking record with 19 goals. They are fourth in the standings with 17 points.
