Ethiopia Coffee beat Sidama Coffee, Adama and CBE draw

Ethiopia Coffee got off to a winning start in the new BetKing Ethiopia Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Sidama Coffee, and in the other opening day fixture, Adama Kenema and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) played to a goalless draw.

The 2023-24 season began on Sunday, with both matches at Adama Science and Technology University Stadium.

In the first match, Adama Kenema and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia produced a very tight match.

The first half of the match saw an evenly balanced performance from both sides, but in the second half, the newcomers were more dominant in possession and created more opportunities.

However, in the end, neither side were able to register a single goal in the match, and it ended 0-0.

The second match of the day was more eventful, with coach Nikola Kavazovic's Ethiopia Coffee outsmarting Sidama Coffee in a 1-0 victory.

Sidama Coffee are one of the teams expected to challenge for league honours this season on the strength of their recruitment and preseason form, and the fact that they are coached by Seyoum Kebede.

Ermias Shumbeza scored the only goal of the game with a searing shot from outside of the box.

Sidama Coffee tried to get a goal but their weak combinations in the attacking third meant they struggled to create good goal-scoring opportunities.
