Newly promoted Legetafo Legedadi have caused the first upset in the BetKing Ethiopia Premier League season 2022/23 when they stung Hawassa City 2-1 on Sunday.
Hawassa had been expected to begin their campaign on a high after their performances last season and the acquisition of Mujib Kassim from Fasil.
Indeed, Kassim featured prominently in the match, but failed to get on the scoresheet.
Instead, it was Legetafo striker Carlos Demetew who stole the headlines with a brace.
Carlos had been the star man for Ethio Electric and his goals earned them promotion from the Higher League to the Premier League before his transfer to Legetafo this season.
Ali Suliman gave Hawassa the lead in the 26th minute and they went into halftime break with a 1-0 advantage.
Demetew though equalised soon after the break in the 46th minute and grabbed his brace on 61 minutes.
It was enough to earn his team all three points and a good base to establish their presence.
In the other fixture on Sunday, Wolaitta Dicha and Ethiopia Coffee played out a goalless draw earlier in the day.
