Arbaminch City have been undone for much of this season by the sheer number of draws in their report card, so it didn't matter that they were up against already relegated Legetafo Legedadi.
However, they looked like they were up for a good result when they scored first via a penalty converted by Ahmed Hussein in the 22nd minute.
Their joy was short-lived when Surafel Awol found an equaliser for Dire Dawa on 35 minutes.
The teams went into the break tied at 1-1, but Arbaminch City came out in the second half determined to press on for another goal.
They were finally rewarded with another goal in the 61st minute as Ahmed Hussein completed his brace.
It was a big win for Arbaminch City who now move above Wolkite City into the 13th position with that last relegation spot still a possibility for teams ranked as high as seventh on the log.
Wolaitta Dicha, meanwhile, dominated the first half of proceedings against Dire Dawa City, but they were held at bay until they got their breakthrough just before halftime.
Kalkidan Zelalem found enough space to open scoring in the 40th minute for a 1-0 lead.
However, just two minutes into the second half, parity was restored by Dire Dawa City.
Dawit Estifanos. who has been on the scoresheet for them lately. was the one at the end of a sweeping counter-attacking move to bring the tie level at 1-1.
However, Kalkidan Zelalem completed his brace on 66 minutes to restore Wolaitta Dicha's advantage.
Biniyam Fikre added one more goal two minutes later to extend Wolaitta Dicha's lead to 3-1.
The result sees Wolaitta Dicha move up ahead of their opponents into ninth position, with Dire Dawa City now in 10th place.
