Adama stun Ethiopia Coffee, Commercial Bank go top
Adama City came from a goal down to beat Ethiopia Coffee 2-1 and Ethiopia Nigd Bank, also known as Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), trounced Hawassa City 3-0 to go top of the table.
Ethiopia Coffee shot into a 23rd-minute lead courtesy of Anteneh Tefera's goal.
The lead was short-lived as Adama equalised just three minutes later through Habib Mohammed.
Both sides will go into the halftime break tied at 1-1 with all to play for in the second half.
Adama got on the score sheet 11 minutes into the second half when Biniam Ayiten scored what proved to be the winner on 56 minutes.
Hawassa City could not have imagined what hit them at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium when they faced new Boys, CBE.
The Bankers are well stocked with seasoned campaigners following their promotion to the Premier League and they have been flying high.
A first-half brace by Suleiman Hamid, the first in the 20th minute and the second a 32nd-minute goal, gave CBE a great start to the game.
Hawassa's flames were doused in the first minute of added time when Fetudin Jemal added a third goal to take the game to halftime with CBE 3-0 up.
Hawassa tried to ignite a fightback in the second half to no avail as CBE held on to win 3-0.
The win takes them to the summit with 14 points, one more than St George in second and Mekelakeya in third, both on 13 points, respectively.
With the win and 12 points, Adama move up the log to fifth position behind Fasil Kenema in fourth, and Bahir Dar City who beat St George on Saturday are in sixth place.
Hawassa, on 11 points, drop to seventh place, and Ethiopia Coffee, with their second loss of the season, are further down in ninth.
