Hildah Magaia’s long-range strike on 77 minutes has earned Banyana Banyana a 1-1 draw with Slovenia in their second game at the Turkish Women’s Cup on Tuesday.
Banyana trailed early to a Adrijana Mori goal after 12 minutes that had Slovenia in front for most of the match.
But coach Desiree Ellis’s side stuck at it and earned the draw that means they leave the competition unbeaten following a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their opener.
Magaia may know best whether she was attempting a shot or a cross, but her looping effort into the box fell into the net at the back post.
The Turkish Women’s Cup went ahead despite the devastating earthquake that has left at least 47 000 people dead, a number that is still rising, in both that country and neighbouring Syria.
But Fifa gave the greenlight for the tournament in a letter sent to all the participants, which also include Bulgaria, Estonia, Kosovo, Hong Kong, Jordan, North Macedonia and Zambia.
Zambia lost their first game against Slovenia 1-0, but followed that up with a 4-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
Banyana were also due to play Venezuela in the competition, but the South American side withdrew.
