Nagelsmann optimistic for women's World Cup bid

Julian Nagelsmann said on Thursday he was optimistic Fifa would accept the joint Germany-Netherlands-Belgium bid to host the 2027 Women's World Cup.

Speaking while announcing Germany's Euro 2024 squad in Berlin, the men's national team coach said he had his "fingers crossed for good news" later on Thursday ahead of the announcement.

"I hope that our very good application bears fruit so that after a hopefully successful home European Championship we can also enjoy a home World Cup.

"It would be an extremely nice experience and a great event we could all look forward to.

"I've got my fingers crossed."

The joint European bid faces off against an application from Brazil.

Two-time World Cup winners Germany hosted the tournament in 2011, with Japan beating the United States in the final in Frankfurt.

Brazil, whose best result was as runners up in the 2007 final to Germany, have never hosted the event.

Several members of the German FA hierarchy are in Bangkok, Thailand for the Fifa Congress, with the announcement to be made Friday morning Germany time.

Alongside Spain, who won the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Germany is the only other nation to have won both the men's and the women's World Cups.
