On Friday, Banyana Banyana coach Des Ellis named the 23-member squad that will represent the country at the Fifa Women's World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in New Zealand and Australia in July.

The squad will be captained by Refiloe Jane with Thembi Kgatlana and goalkeeper Andile Dlamini named as vice-captains.

This will be Banyana's second World Cup appearance after their debut in France in 2019, but this time they are African champions.

The South African team is grouped with Sweden, Italy, and third-ranked Argentina.

Banyana open the tournament against the Swedes on 23 July at Wellington Stadium, then play Argentina on 28 July, followed by Italy on 2 August.

As part of their preparation, the South Africans will play a friendly in New Zealand on 15 July against Costa Rica.
