This is the second meeting between Australia and Denmark at the Fifa World Cup, following a 1-1 draw in the group stage of the competition last time out in 2018.
Australia have won just one of their four meetings with Denmark in all competitions (D1 L2), winning a friendly match 1-0 in June 2010.
Australia have lost eight of their 11 World Cup games against European sides (W1 D2), failing to keep a clean sheet in all 11 matches. However, one of the three times they avoided defeat was against Denmark (1-1 in 2018).
Denmark are winless in their last five World Cup games (D4 L1), since beating Peru on MD1 of the 2018 tournament. Following their defeat to France, they could lose back-to-back group stage matches at the tournament for the first time.
Australia are looking to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup for only a second time in their six participations in the finals, having only previously done so in 2006.

Denmark could qualify for the knockout stages at back-to-back World Cup tournaments for a second time, previously doing so in 1998 and 2002. In fact, they have only failed to qualify from the group stage in one of their previous five appearances at the World Cup prior to 2022 (eliminated in the group stage in 2010).
Australia have won just three of their 18 World Cup matches (D4 L11), beating Japan in 2006, Serbia in 2010 and Tunisia this year. The Socceroos have also kept just two clean sheets in these 18 games, a 0-0 draw with Chile in 1974, and their 1-0 win against Tunisia last time out.
Nine of Australia's 15 World Cup goals have been scored by players aged 30 and over, including their two goals so far at this tournament (Craig Goodwin and Mitchell Duke). It's the highest per centage of goals netted by players aged 30+ in the competition's history (60 per cent, minimum 2 goals scored excluding own goals).
Christian Eriksen has created seven chances at the 2022 World Cup, at least five more than any other player for Denmark. Indeed, France’s Antoine Griezmann (9) is the only midfielder or forward who has created more in Group D in the tournament so far.
Mitchell Duke has scored five goals in his last eight starts for Australia in all competitions, with four of these goals being headers.
