This will be the first ever meeting between Croatia and Canada.
Croatia have faced CONCACAF sides on three previous occasions at the World Cup – they beat Jamaica 3-1 in their first ever match in the competition in 1998, before losing to Mexico in both 2002 and 2014.
Canada have lost all four of their World Cup matches without scoring a single goal. This is the most games any nation has played without ever scoring in the competition, while only El Salvador (six games) have played more matches at the finals without ever avoiding defeat.
Croatia's goalless draw with Morocco on MD1 ended their run of scoring in 11 consecutive World Cup matches. Only once have they failed to score in consecutive games at the same edition of the tournament, doing so in their first two group games in 2006.
Canada attempted 22 shots in their defeat to Belgium on MD1, twice as many as their previous record in a World Cup match (11 v USSR in 1986). However, just three of those efforts were on target (14 per cent).
Croatia had just five shots in their opening game against Morocco, their lowest total in a single World Cup match. Croatia averaged 16.1 shots-per-game in the 2018 edition of the tournament.
Canada are yet to score from 50 shots in their four World Cup matches. Only one nation ever failed to score in each of their first five World Cup matches, with Bolivia doing so from 1930 to 1994.

Atiba Hutchinson is one appearance away from making 100 for Canada, and would be the first ever player to reach that total for the nation. Against Belgium, he became the second-oldest outfielder ever to appear in a World Cup game (38y 288d), after only Roger Milla for Cameroon in 1994 (42y 39d).
Against Morocco, 20-year-old Josko Gvardiol both attempted (115) and completed (102) more passes than any Croatia player has ever done in a single World Cup match.
Canada’s Jonathan David had seven shots in their opening game defeat to Belgium, all from inside the box, but with none on target. Since Opta have this data available (from 1966), this is a joint-high for shots inside the box by a player in a World Cup match without one being on target, along with Paolo Barison for Italy against DPR Korea in 1966 (also seven).
