Ethio Electric were relegated from the BetKing Ethiopia Premier League on Tuesday after a 2-2 draw against Mekelakeya, while Hawassa City and Ethiopian Insurance shared the spoils in a 2-2 stalemate.
Electric, who spent only one season in the top-flight, only managed 12 points in 25 games and have become the second club after Legetafo Legedadi to be relegated to the Ethiopian Higher League. Arbaminch City's fate is still hanging by a thread.
Earlier in the day, Ethiopian Insurance thought they had found their range when Simon Piter converted a second-minute penalty to give them a 1-0 lead.
However, Hawassa City equalised just three minutes later through Seid Hassen in the fifth minute.
The teams would go into the halftime break tied at 1-1, but on 58 minutes Piter completed his brace from another penalty.
Hassen would not be left out as he again equalised for Hawassa City in the 74th minute as the two teams settled for a 2-2 draw.
Hawassa City are now in the seventh position on the log.
Ethiopian Insurance remain third on the log with 45 points, five points behind Bahir Dar in second with 50 points and 10 points behind league leaders St George on 55.
There was more drama in the other game when Teshome Belachew drew first blood for Mekelakeya in the sixth minute to set the tone.
Things were looking bleak for Ethio Electric going into half time, but they sprung into life in the second half.
A 59th-minute and 74th-minute brace by Abdurahman Mubarek gave them a 2-1 lead and they looked like they were on the verge of pulling off a dramatic win with less than a minute to go.
However, Mekelakeya dashed their hopes with an 89th-minute equaliser scored by their big striker, Esrael Eshetu -- a result which keeps the Defence Force in ninth position with 33 points.
