Mayambela steps up mind games ahead of Diski Challenge top-of-the-table clash
Cape Town City FC Reserves coach Mark Mayambela has stepped the mind games ahead of DStv Diski Challenge top-of-the-table clash against SuperSport United.
The two sides are heading to the crucial weekend fixture, with SuperSport leading the standings with 55 points. The Citizens are second with 54 points, just a point behind Matsatsantsa.
A victory for City could see them reclaiming the No 1 spot they had occupied for the longest time this season.
With five games remaining, a winner of this game might have a slight advantage as the title race hots up.
However, Mayambela, who recently took over the reins replacing Ian Taylor, suggested that three points against SuperSport would not change the World for them.
“It is not the most important thing in the World for us [to win the match or even the league at the end of the season]. What is important for us is to develop players the right way. Three points doesn’t necessarily change the World for us but course we going to the match with the plan and we hoping the players will execute the plan well,” said Mayambela.
The former player, who recently acquired his Uefa B License, said there’s no added pressure on his charges heading to the Diski Challenge top-of-the-table clash.
He added: “Football is a game that we need to enjoy every moment because once use get under pressure there are certain parts of the game that you will not enjoy. We are looking forward to the game and hoping that the boys will execute the plan well on the day,”
With five games remaining in the Diski Challenge, the title race remains a three-horse race between SuperSport, City and Orlando Pirates. Moreover, judging from how the three teams’ performance of late, it is most likely that the title race will go down to the wire.
