Former France defender Eliaquim Mangala, who has been out of contract since the summer, has joined Saint-Etienne on a six-month contract, the Ligue 1 strugglers announced on Thursday.
Mangala, who turns 31 next month, won eight caps for France, playing at the 2014 World Cup and the Euros in 2016, but he has been a free agent since the end of his contract with Spanish club Valencia on June 30.
Mangala began his career at Standard Liege and went on to play for Porto before joining Manchester City in 2014.
He was on the books at the Etihad until 2019 but spent time on loan at Valencia and Everton before joining the Spanish outfit on a fulltime basis.
Saint-Etienne are currently bottom of Ligue 1, five points adrift of 19th-placed Bordeaux.
