Zesco face tough away day on Wednesday
Zesco United will hope to extend their lead at the top of the MTN Super League when a full round of matches is played on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
They have 25 points from their 12 games to date, three more than a trio of clubs, Green Buffaloes, Kabwe Warriors and Power Dynamos. Defending champions Red Arrows are languishing a full seven points back.
Zesco go to FC MUZA on Wednesday, a side who have had an up and down season, but have won their last two, and three of their previous four (L1) games. The visitors have only lost one of their previous 13 games (W7 D5) and ended a run of three straight draws with a 2-0 win over Power Dynamos on Saturday.
Zesco’s two previous visits to FC MUZA have resulted in one win each, though they did do the double last season.
Green Buffaloes host Nkwazi, who have only lost two of their 12 matches so far (W4 D6), and just one of their six away games (W1 D4). Nkwazi have only lost five of their previous 14 league visits to Buffaloes (W3 D6), so know how to get a result there.
Kabwe Warriors host Mutondo Stars in a game they will expect to win against a side that have lost three in a row after a promising start to the season. By contrast, Warriors have won their last three.
That being said, Stars took four points off Warriors last season, including a 2-0 away win.
Power Dynamos had a run of five straight wins ended by that loss to Zesco at the weekend and they will be looking to get back to winning ways at home to NAPSA Stars.
Stars’ last league win over Dynamos was in 2018.
Zanaco have not managed a home win this campaign, the only side outside of bottom club Indeni who have yet to be victorious in front of their own fans. They welcome Nkana FC, who are shooting up the table after four successive wins.
Nkana have been flirting with relegation in recent seasons and it is the first time they have won four league games in a row since 2021. They have not won five in a row since 2017.
Red Arrows will hope to bounce back to form when they host Mufulira Wanderers, while in the other match on Wednesday, Indeni seek a first win of the season at home to Nchanga Rangers.
There are also two games on Thursday as Forest Rangers host Green Eagles and Lumwana Radiants welcome Atletico Lusaka.
