Kwa Mahlobo: making history

While there will be June 16 commemorations in various parts of Soweto this Thursday, for football lovers all roads will lead to Meadowlands Zone 10, at the Kwa Mahlobo grounds, for the DStv eKasi Champ of Champs tournament.

The name Kwa Mahlobo is derived from the school grounds in Zone 10 next to Kwa Mahlobo High School.

The Kwa Mahlobo grounds gave birth to talents such as Reneilwe Letsoelenyane, Sbu Vilakazi, Xola Mlambo and many others. Brian "Makarena" Kgafane, Sibusiso Mazibuko, See Ngobeni, S-Curl Mendu, and Peter Rabolele are some of the legends who have dazzled the crowd at the famous venue that houses the Annual KwaMahlobo Games

Teams like Moroka Swallows and Jomo Cosmos benefitted from the tournament, as the likes of Ningiza were signed from the Kwa Mahlobo background.

The late Jaconia "The Bull", who used to play for Zondi Vultures, was signed by Swallows after playing at both the Godfrey Moloi and Kwa Mahlobo Games alongside Scara Ngobese.

Thembinkosi Biyela was one of the players who enjoyed making his name through the Kwa Mahlobo football grounds.
