Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler will mark his 200th game in charge on the bench when they take on Highlands Park in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The 49-year-old Tinkler has been in charge at four different clubs in his career, starting out at Wits University and continuing at Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United and now Maritzburg, who he saved from relegation last season.

Tinkler’s record is 199 games in charge with 85 wins, 54 draws and 60 defeats. The goal tally in matches under him is 258 to 197.

Tinkler had eight games in charge at the end of the 2006-07 season at Wits when he replaced the sacked Boebie Solomons.

But the next season he was overlooked for a permanent post as his good friend Roger de Sa returns to take charge of Wits.

Tinkler went with De Sa to Orlando Pirates in 2013 and then took over from him a year later in a caretaker capacity before then working under Vladimir Vermezovic.

When the Serbian left the next season, Tinkler took over as coach and stayed for some 18 months before moving to new club Cape Town City.

SuperSport signed him at the start of the 2017-18 season and although he won the MTN8 and reached the final of the African Confederation Cup final he left after nine months, forced out by their players.

He had a brief spell at Chippa United and then joined Maritzburg in January.
