Magesi and Cape Town City will engage in a keenly anticipated clash in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend, with both sides targeting top spot as the front runners in South Africa’s first division.
As it stands, Magesi occupy pole position in the league on 20 points after eight matches played. The log leaders are the only unbeaten team in the league, and recent victories over Venda Football Academy and Gomora saw them maintain their three-point lead over second-placed City.
The Citizens have won each of their last three league assignments, taking their tally to 17 points, with their latest win coming via a 2-1 away result against Orbit College.
Third-placed Real Native will eye a return to the winning column this weekend when they face NWU on Friday. Native could only manage a point during a 1-1 stalemate with Highbury last time out, bringing their campaign total to 16 points.
Elsewhere, Hungry Lions and Upington City, two teams on the rise in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, will meet on Saturday with both sides currently enjoying a positive spell of results.
Sitting in fourth spot, Hungry Lions won each of their last three league ties, while sixth-place Upington City recorded back-to-back wins over Orbit and Midlands Wanderers in their last two fixtures.
At the bottom end of the table, Venda Football Academy will search for their maiden win in the league when they take on Orbit College on Friday.
Venda has recorded just one point in 16th position for the campaign, suffering seven losses and one draw in their first eight games.
Orbit, who are in 14th spot, just two points ahead of their upcoming opponents, are on a two-match losing streak and are likewise hoping to jot down a victory in the league.
