Mumbai Indians made an excellent start to their final Tata IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium on a steaming Sunday afternoon against the Rajasthan Royals, claiming three wickets in the power play, including their key combo of Yashaswi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
The free-scoring Jaiswal was the first to go in the fourth over, skying Will Jacks to point, before his prolific partner, Sooryavanshi, followed him, top-edging seamer Deepak Chahar to deep point. Royals skipper Riyan Parag was the third to go off the final ball of the power play, mistiming offspinner AM Glazanfar to long-on, where Tilak Varma took a fine catch on the boundary’s edge.
The equation for Rajasthan – put in to bat by Mumbai – is simple: win the match and take the last playoff position. A loss would disqualify them and open the door for the fourth-placed Punjab Kings or, less likely, a place for the Kolkata Knight Riders if they achieve a massive win in today’s final match of the double-header against the Delhi Capitals.
