Donay Jansen is aware that he cannot be at “luxury” for Chiefs, with the 20-year-old setting the target of breaking the DStv Diski Challenge top goal scorer record.

The youngster who’s in his third season at Chiefs has been among the outstanding players this season so far. After seven matches, he has found the back of the net seven times.

He is now five goals away from matching his last season's tally of 12 goals in the Reserve League.

Jansen started the season on a good note, being on the scoresheet for five consecutive weekends. His impressive form saw him being roped into training with the Amakhosi first team, while still playing in the Diski Challenge.

Undoubtedly on its own, it is a sign that the lad could get his debut with the big boys in no time if he continues to do well.

Talking to the website, Jansen Acknowledged that he cannot be resting on his laurels as he is ambitious of becoming the first player in the Diski Challenge to score more than 25 goals in one season.

“Last season I had set myself a target of double figures [10 goals], I achieved that and now I want more,” said Jansen.

“The difference between last season and now will have to be consistency. I want to be more consistent. I want to try and score each game so I can break the record and score 30 goals. I know that is a huge task and I cannot do it alone, but we will work as a team to achieve that,” added the confident players.

“I think as a team we are in a good space, working together would be very key because we also want to improve this season, try to give our best shot in the league race.”

After his good performances, Jansen was roped into the first team and has been training with them…“It was a good feeling to train with the big boys and I will work hard to impress the coaches. There are still more good things to come. I am praying to stay injury-free.”

Orlando Pirates striker Boitumelo Radiopane is the current Diski Challenge Golden Boot record holder. Radioman scored 25 goals during the 2021-22 season.

Prior to that, former Golden Arrows striker Nkosikhona Dube was the only player to have passed the 20-goal mark in the Diski Challenge.

Jansen would be hoping to continue with his goalscoring spree this weekend when Chiefs visit Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday.
