With the Motsepe Foundation Championship resuming this weekend, the battle for a promotional place continues with Cape Town Spurs, Casric Stars and Polokwane City facing tricky opposition.
The battle of the abovementioned teams had the entire South African football fraternity on edge in the last couple of months, as the business end of the 2022/23 campaign commences.
Log leaders Cape Town Spurs will travel to the Soshanguve Stadium on Saturday afternoon, where they will face a JDR Stars outfit who went into the International break on a positive note.
JDR Stars claimed a 1-0 away win against Baroka on 18 March, whereas the Urban Warriors dropped crucial points in a 2-1 home defeat against Pretoria Callies the next day.
The defeat allowed Casric Stars to draw level on points with the Mother City outfit (47), despite a frustrating 1-1 draw against bottom of the log Black Leopards the last time out.
Now though, Casric Stars will face MM Platinum in their next league fixture, with the game set to take place at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Elsewhere, Polokwane City go into their next fixture on the back of two consecutive defeats to Casric Stars and Venda Football Academy.
Rise and Shine will host the University of Pretoria at the Peter Mokaba Stadium this weekend, with AmaTuks claiming a slender 1-0 win over Platinum City Rovers in their last league encounter.
With all to play for at the summit of the table, Polokwane City trail Spurs and Casric Stars by one point and currently occupy third spot on the table.
