Rangers hit late double to beat Hearts, close gap on Celtic
Substitute Danilo headed in a dramatic added-time winner as Rangers beat Hearts 2-1 on Sunday, moving them to within five points of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
The league leaders dropped two points at Hibernian on Saturday but Rangers' prospects of taking advantage dipped when Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland gave the visitors an early lead with a stunning header.
The mood inside Ibrox was not helped when skipper James Tavernier smacked the post with a penalty at the end of the first half and there was more woe when midfielder Nicolas Raskin was taken from the field on a stretcher.
However, Philippe Clement's side were awarded a second penalty after a VAR check for a Peter Haring foul on Connor Goldson and this time Tavernier made no mistake, slamming home in the 90th minute.
Three minutes into stoppage time, Brazilian striker Danilo nodded in for a victory that had looked unlikely for most of the afternoon.
"The good teams are the teams who never give up," said Clement. "Those are the ones that win trophies at the end.
"That's our ambition, that's what we want to do so this is a good reference game. You saw today also all the players that came in, they gave something extra for the team."
