Hannes Strooh secured a memorable victory at the Betway Big Easy Blu Label Unlimited Invitational #7 after defeating fellow South African Wandré Snyman in a play-off at Krugersdorp Golf Club.
The 21-year-old finished the three-round tournament on 11-under-par 205, level with Snyman, before prevailing in the play-off to claim his first victory and earn valuable points towards his Sunshine Tour ambitions.
The tournament, held from 13 to 15 October 2026, saw Snyman emerge as the early pacesetter after an impressive opening round of 66, which left him tied for the lead at six-under-par alongside England’s Jake Bolton, Ruan de Smidt and Zachary Chegwidden.
Snyman continued his strong form in the second round, carding a five-under-par 67 to move to 11-under-par and establish a two-shot lead over Strooh and Bolton.
However, Strooh fought back in the final round to draw level with Snyman and force a play-off, where he held his nerve to secure the title.
Reflecting on the final-round drama, Strooh explained how a strong stretch of golf gave him a significant advantage before mistakes on the closing holes threatened to derail his challenge.
“On 14, which got me to five under for the round. Unfortunate bogey on 15, and then on 16 I made a good par and Vander made a bogey. So, I mean, I had a three-shot lead at that point, which is great,” Strooh said.
The closing holes proved challenging, with the young golfer admitting that mistakes on the 17th and 18th forced him to fight for the win.
“Messed up on 17, missed one short one on 18, but luckily got it done in the play-off, yeah,” he added.
Despite the pressure, Strooh was delighted to win at a course where he has spent considerable time practising.
“I mean, I know this course really well. I mean, I practice here a lot. It’s not my home course. My home course is Goldfields, but I practice here a lot. I know the course well. So to win on this course is just really nice,” he said.
The victory could prove crucial in Strooh’s pursuit of a Sunshine Tour card for next season, with the points earned expected to strengthen his position on the Big Easy Order of Merit.
“It’s going to give me a lot of points on the Big Easy Order of Merit. I’m trying to get my Sunshine Tour card for next season. I mean, I’ve got a lot of mates on the Sunshine Tour, so obviously I want to get there,” he said.
“First win, a lot of points. It’s good. Yeah, it means a lot.”
Strooh’s triumph highlights the importance of consistency and composure in professional golf, particularly when a tournament reaches a decisive playoff.
For the 21-year-old, the Invitational #7 title represents more than just a trophy. It is a significant career milestone and an important step towards his ambition of competing on the Sunshine Tour next season.
