ANTONELLI THE MAN TO BEAT
Mercedes sensation Kimi Antonelli arrives in Hungary firmly in control of the Drivers' Championship after an impressive opening 10 rounds. The Italian leads the standings on 204 points, 45 clear of Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton following victory at the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend.
Antonelli has already claimed six victories this season and continues to strengthen his credentials for a maiden world title. Another strong result in Budapest would allow him to enter the summer break with significant momentum and potentially extend his championship advantage even further.
HAMILTON AND FERRARI CHASING
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton remains Antonelli's closest challenger and will be desperate to cut into the deficit before Formula 1 pauses for August. Hamilton sits second in the standings on 159 points, while Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc occupies fourth place on 126 points.
Ferrari have shown encouraging pace throughout the season, but consistency remains the key if they are to mount a sustained challenge against the dominant Mercedes outfit.
RUSSELL ADDS ANOTHER MERCEDES THREAT
George Russell remains very much in championship contention despite a difficult Belgian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver is third overall on 154 points, just five behind Hamilton and 50 adrift of teammate Antonelli.
Russell's speed throughout the year means Mercedes possess two strong cards heading into Budapest, placing added pressure on Ferrari and the chasing teams.
MCLAREN LOOKING TO REIGNITE TITLE HOPES
Defending Hungarian Grand Prix winner Lando Norris returns to a circuit where he enjoyed success in 2025. However, the McLaren driver's championship campaign has been hampered by inconsistency and misfortune. Norris currently sits fifth on 103 points, while teammate Oscar Piastri is sixth on 92.
With more than half the season still remaining, McLaren cannot be written off, but the team requires a major points haul in Hungary to remain within striking distance of the leaders.
VERSTAPPEN FACES UPHILL BATTLE
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen enters the weekend seventh in the standings on 91 points. While Red Bull have shown flashes of competitiveness, they have struggled to consistently match Mercedes and Ferrari across the opening phase of the season.
The Hungaroring's technical nature could provide Verstappen with an opportunity to challenge for a podium and revive his championship ambitions before the summer shutdown.
CONSTRUCTORS' CHAMPIONSHIP
Mercedes hold a commanding position in the Constructors' Championship with 358 points, opening a 73-point advantage over Ferrari.
McLaren are third, while Red Bull continue to search for the performance required to rejoin the front-running battle.
