Fasil Kenema and Ethiopia Coffee, two powerhouse teams, earned big wins on Friday to bring themselves back into contention in the Ethiopia Premier League title race.
A brace each by Getaneh Kebede for Fasil and Mesfin Tafesse for Ethiopia Coffee was what Fasil Kenema needed to inspire a 3-0 win over Dire Dawa City, as Ethiopia Coffee beat Hawassa City 2-1.
Fasil and Dire Dawa played a competitive first half that had everything except for goals, going into the break tied at 0-0.
Getaneh Kebede struck in the 63rd minute to give Fasil a 1-0 lead and completed his brace on 76 minutes.
Natanael Gebregiorgis added a third goal 10 minutes later to make it 3-0 in the 86th minute, earning the Emperors a comfortable win.
ETHIOPIA COFFEE IN GOOD FORM
Ethiopia Coffee produced a second big win in as many weeks when they beat Hawassa 2-1 on the back of a famous 1-0 win over eternal rivals St George last week.
Those six points have significantly enhanced their position on the log after what has been a sluggish start to the season.
Mesfin Tafesse converted a 44th-minute penalty to give Ethiopia Coffee a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
However, Hawassa equalised in the 53rd minute through Abenezer Yohannis to bring the scores to 1-1.
Mesfin Tafesse completed his brace in the 62nd minute, a goal that was enough to give Coffee the three points.
