Sinesipho Dambile extended his lead at the top of the Diamond League standings in the men's 200m event, signalling his intent in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday night.
Dambile took second place in the men's half-lap race in Zurich, crossing the finish line in 19.82 seconds.
Two-time Olympic medallist Kenny Bednarek was the only athlete to hold him off, with the American speedster taking the win in 19.62 (the fastest time in the world this year).
"I am happy with my consistency, but I still need to work on my execution," Dambile said after the race. "I messed up putting it together well, especially coming out of the curve. It is always fun to race, but at the same time I am asking myself 'what can I improve?' So I enjoy and analyse at the same time."
Dambile, who achieved podium places at five Diamond League meetings this season, was set to line up among the favourites in the 200m sprint at the series final to be held in Brussels, Belgium on 4 and 5 September.
