Marumo Gallants won away for only the second time in the Betway Premiership season on Saturday with their 1-0 victory over Cape Town City, much to the delight of new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Frank Mhango had the visitors, who started the match second from bottom in the standings, ahead after seven minutes and Gallants held on to secure three precious points as they moved two places up the standings.

“It was not an easy game against very good players, with big talent,” said the former Morocco international, in charge of only his fifth game at Gallants.

“I cannot say that we had a great game in terms of possession, in terms of football, but in our position, it is a big emergency for us as we are looking for points.

“We don't care about the way we are playing. We need points, and (while) it's not my philosophy, we need to save the club, and we will do anything we can to win points.”

Ouaddou made sure that Gallants closed shop in the second half to ensure their lead by bringing on a fifth defender in veteran Siyabonga Nhlapo.

“We had the first chance in the first half, and we were clinical. In the second half, my idea was to play with five at the back and to stop the opponent from playing, preventing them from (finding) space on the side.

“It worked because I didn't see (Cape Town City) creating a lot of chances. So, we’ll take the points and we'll see after the Fifa break, we will work to take some (more) points,” the coach added.
