South Africa’s Branden Grace has an accomplished career in the game, and now he’s chasing one of the rare achievements in international golf – winning all four of the current Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned tournaments.
Grace has already won the three played in South Africa. Now he wants to make a clean sweep of this and add the fourth – the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open – and will make his debut here at Mont Choisy Le Golf from 10-13 December.
“I’m excited to bring my family and play some proper coastal golf. It’s been a while since I have played an island-style golf course and I haven’t been to Mauritius in years. I’m looking forward to the challenge.
"I’ve had the privilege to play across all the tours, from the Sunshine Tour, to Asian Tour, DP World Tour, the PGA Tour and LIV. I was able to win across all of these tours and I am very proud of that.
"Even more so, I’m proud of winning all the current co-sanctioned tournaments in South Africa, which is something I’m sentimental about,” says Grace.
Grace has added his name to an AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open field that includes South Africa’s current generation of young stars in defending champion Jayden Schaper and Casey Jarvis, and with more international stars set to be announced soon.
Now, at 38 years old and with next year marking his 20th year as a professional, Grace has set himself some new targets going forward.
One of these is moving into double digits for victories on the DP World Tour. He’s currently on nine, and a win in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open would tick that box.
“I feel like I’ve had a gradual career and that I’ve grown so much during this time, from becoming a father myself, losing my dad during Covid and coming back from a pretty bad injury two seasons ago, I’ve had plenty of ups and downs. But I’m proud of the way I always fight back in this game.
"Now I would like to get to double digit wins on the DP World Tour. And I’d like to get that Major. I’ve been in the mix a few times over the years, and maybe now I’m a bit wiser and older. But I’m grateful for my career thus far and feel that there is still a bit left to accomplish.”
A win on the 10th anniversary edition of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open would certainly be a special addition to Grace’s already illustrious career.
