Mexico and Korea Republic are meeting at the FIFA World Cup for the third time – Mexico won both previous group stage encounters (3-1 in 1998, 2-1 in 2018). This is the first time Korea Republic will face a host country at the World Cup.

Mexico have won only one of their three previous matches played at the Guadalajara Stadium, a 2-0 victory against the USA in an October 2024 friendly. The other two matches ended in a defeat (1-2 in September 2010) and a draw (1-1 in October 2025), both against Ecuador.
