Betking Ethiopia Premier League champions Fasil Kenema stepped up their preparation ahead of the Caf Champions League debut against Al Hilal of Sudan, losing a friendly match 1-0 against the visiting Uganda national team as the "Cranes" of Uganda are also preparing for the Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Kenya in September.

Fasil have been training in Bahir Dar since early July while Uganda arrived to continue their own tune-ups and the Cranes scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute by midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Byaruhanga powered a free-kick well beyond the reach of Fasil goalkeeper Michael Samaki from all of 25 yards following a Fasil foul on Shafik Kagimu on a slippery Bahir Dar pitch, with the game played behind closed doors.

Fasil featured their impressive new signing, Nigerian striker Okiki Afolabi, who impressed in his spell with Sidama Coffee last season. Bereket Desta was also outstanding, but Fasil couldn't unlock the Uganda defence led by captain Denis Iguma.

The Cranes will use the opportunity of training to play another high-profile friendly match with Ethiopia on Sunday before beginning their World Cup qualification campaign under returning head coach Micho Sredojevic, who has reunited with the team after spells in charge of Orlando Pirates of South Africa, Zamalek of Egypt and lately, the Zambia national team.
