Warriors, ZESCO look to extend MTN Super League lead
Kabwe Warriors and ZESCO United have led a mini breakaway at the top of the MTN Super League and will seek to build on that this weekend.
Warriors (+14) lead by virtue of their goal-difference compared to ZESCO (+9), and the pair hold a two-point advantage over defending champions Red Arrows in third.
Warriors travel to Arrows on Saturday in a huge test of their championship credentials, where victory would give them a huge boost in confidence and suggest they can go all the way this season.
There has never been much to choose between the sides. In 35 previous league and Charity Cup meetings, they have 11 wins each and 13 draws. Arrows have scored 29 goals to Warriors’ 28.
ZESCO are away at Green Eagles on Sunday with the latter having fallen behind following back-to-back defeats. Thery are still in the title race only six points behind, but need to get back to winning ways.
ZESCO have won three of the previous four meetings (D1) with Eagles’ last home win against their opponents all the way back in 2018. In fact, they have four wins in the last 27 league clashes.
Nkana FC are three points off the summit and were stung by a 2-0 loss at ZESCO last weekend. They will hope to get back to winning ways against NAPSA Stars at home on Saturday.
Power Dynamos broke a run of three straight defeats with victory over bottom side Indeni last weekend. Next up they face Forest Rangers, who are in the relegation zone but have won three of their last four games and will be no pushovers.
Zanaco won last tine out but remain two points from safety in the drop zone, and could climb out if they beat Green Buffaloes on Saturday.
At the same time, Mufulira Wanderers host Lumwana Radiants, FC MUZA go to Indeni and Nchanga Rangers welcome Mutondo Stars. Nkwazi host Atletico Lusaka on Sunday.
