After an absence of two years, The MTN Super League Awards were held on Thursday night at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka and were greeted with pomp and splendor.
In attendance were the FAZ President and General Secretary Andrew Kamanga and Adrian Kashala, The MTN Zambia CEO Bart Hofker, Multichoice Zambia MD Leah Kooma, and The Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Art Kangwa Chileshe.
Notable club officials in attendance were Kabwe Warriors FC Chairperson and CEO Mutale Ngandu and Charles Chakatazya, Red Arrows FC Chairperson Col. Moses Kambimbi, Zanaco FC Club General Secretary Isaac Manda, and many others.
In the category of Young Player of The Year, Joshua Mutale of Power Dynamos emerged victorious over fellow nominees Ricky Banda of Red Arrows and Songa Chipyoka formerly of Lusaka Dynamos and now of Zesco United. Mutale walked away with prize money of K 15,000.00.
In the category of Most Disciplined Player of The Year, veteran James Chamanga beat fellow veteran and now retired Winston Kalengo of Zesco United, and Hosea Silwimba of Green Eagles. Chamanga walked away with prize money of K 15,000.00
In the category of Assistant Referee of The Year, Thomas Kaela beat a tight field comprising Diana Chikotesha and Chiwoyu Sinyangwe. He walked away with prize money of K 10,000.00.
In the category of Referee of The Year, Mathews Hamalila emerged victorious over Audrick Nkole and four-time winner Janny Sikazwe. He walked away with prize money of K 15,000.00.
In the category of Coach of The Year, title-winning Coach Chisi Mbewe of Red Arrows overcame stiff competition from Boyd Mulwanda who was responsible for Kansanshi Dynamos' change in fortunes last season. He walked away with K 20,000.00.
The President's Award was given to Mary Mwakapila for her gallant efforts in helping the Copper Queens qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and Copper Queens Head Coach Bruce Mwape also for his exploits of having qualified the Queens to the Tokyo Olympics. A total of K 30,000 was pledged to both recipients.
Player of the Year went to Ricky Banda who fended off competition from Tresor Tshibwabwa, former team mate at Arrows and now signed to The PSL, and Moses Phiri who has since left Zanaco FC for Simba of Tanzania. Banda also collected the Top Scorer of the season accolade for his 17 goals. The Player of the year walked away with K 25,000.00 and also received K 20,000.00 for his top scoring exploits.
