Red Arrows consolidate lead in MTN Super League
First-half goals from Ackim Mumba and Ebengo Ikoko have handed MTN Super League leaders Red Arrows a 2-0 victory over Konkola Blades on a lean day in the Zambian top flight on Wednesday.
Arrows have extended their advantage at the top of the table to six points, albeit that they have played a game more than second-placed ZESCO United, who are in action away at Kabwe Warriors on Thursday.
Arrows extended their unbeaten league run to 10 games with the victory (W9 D1) ahead of a crunch meeting with defending champions Power Dynamos on Saturday.
There was just one goal scored in the other four top-flight matches on Wednesday.
Forest Rangers defeated Mufulira Wanderers 1-0 thanks to a strike from Amenu Moro with 20 minutes remaining. That moves Rangers up to seventh in the table.
Power Dynamos were held to a 0-0 draw by Zanaco and are now nine points adrift of Arrows, making their clash at the weekend all the more important.
Kansanshi Dynamos and Green Buffaloes also played to a 0-0 draw, while Nkana FC moved a point clear of the relegation zone with a goalless draw against second-bottom Prison Leopards.
