Power Dynamos have claimed a seventh Zambia championship win with a 2-0 victory at Forest Rangers that gives them an unassailable 13-point advantage at the top of the 2022-23 MTN Super League table.

Fredrick Mulambia’s early goal on seven minutes handed Dynamos the perfect start in their pursuit of the point they needed to be crowned champions for the first time since 2011 in what has been a dominant campaign under coach Mwenya Chipepo. They have lost only two of their 32 games.

Owen Tembo added a second in the final 10 minutes to make sure of the win and spark wild scenes of celebration at the final whistle.

The title win takes Dynamos level with Zanaco on seven championships, behind Nkana (13), and Mufulira Wanderers and Zesco United, who both have nine.

It is also the fourth different club to win the league in the last four seasons following Nkana (2019-20), Zesco (2020-21) and Red Arrows (2021-22), and will see Power Dynamos play in the Caf Champions League next season.

In other matches on Saturday, Zesco United shot up to second place with a 3-1 win over Nchanga Rangers that leaves their opponents in relegation trouble, but Zesco occupy the Caf Confederation Cup qualification place with two rounds remaining.

Collins Sikombe and Kelvin Kampamba scored for Zesco, with Rangers now just a point above the relegation zone.

One side who are confirmed to have been relegated are Chambishi following their 2-0 loss to Kansanshi Dynamos. The former are seven points from safety.

NAPSA Stars dropped to third following their 1-0 loss to Nkana FC, whose winner came from Diamond Chikwekwe late on.

Green Eagles won 1-0 at Prison Leopards thanks to Amity Shamende, while the now former champions Red Arrows drew 3-3 with Lumwana Radiants.
