Big weekend of action in the MTN Super League
There is a full round of MTN Super League fixtures this weekend following the Fifa international break, starting on Friday afternoon when Green Buffaloes host Green Eagles.
The two sides sit 12th and 13th in the league respectively after disappointing starts to their campaign, but such is the congested nature of the league that they could climb as high as sixth with a win.
Eagles have won three of the last four meetings, to go with a 0-0 draw last time out in March, but overall, Buffaloes have held sway.
Zesco United top the table with 14 points from seven games so far, but just three points separate them and Mutondo Stars in seventh, with no club really stamping their authority on the campaign to date.
Zesco are at Kansanshi Dynamos on Sunday, a side who have won once in seven games. The last four meetings between these teams have been won by the home side, with two victories each in that run.
Champions Power Dynamos are also in action on Sunday as they travel to Kabwe Warriors.
Oddly, the teams have an identical record so far this campaign – won three, drawn three, lost one, 10 goals scored, and seven goals conceded.
That makes it a tough one to predict, but the last time they met was in March when the game finished 3-3. Dynamos’ single loss this season did come last time out at Green Buffaloes.
Second-placed Red Arrows host Nkwazi on Saturday, the latter having drawn their last four games in a row. Arrows have won three of the last four (L1). Nkwazi’s last six games on the road have been three draws and three defeats.
FC Muza welcome sixth-placed Mufulira Wanderers, who could leapfrog their opponents with just two points separating the teams.
Bottom side Nkana FC are still waiting for a first win of the campaign as they host Napsa Stars. Nkana need to find their mojo soon or are in danger of being cut off in the bottom four.
Other matches on Saturday see Forest Rangers welcome promoted Trident, Mutondo Stars host Prison Leopards and Konkola Blades travel to Zanaco.
