Zwane impresses Amakhosi mentor

DStv Diski Challenge youngsters have continued to get praise from Premier Soccer League coaches.

Since the new 2022-23 campaign started, players such as Antonia Van Wyk, Mervin Boji and Aphelele Teto to mention a few have been outstanding for their respective clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Samkelo Zwane, the son of ex-Orlando Pirates player Eugene Zwane has joined the group.

Zwane feature for Amakhosi in the Macufe Cup on Sunday when they lost 4-2 on penalties to Royal AM.

Talking to members of the media on Wednesday, Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane said he was impressed by the 20-year-old and admitted that he is now giving them another option in defence this season.

“Most definitely [he is an option], one of the reasons we’ve brought him to the first team because he’s got the potential,” Zwane told members of the media.

“He’s got the qualities and we said let’s test him now and see how he responds.

Added Zwane: “He responded very positively and he’s giving us other options and its good because he comes from the development as well, so we’re happy, the more we see these youngsters come to this side and pulling their weight, expressing themselves it’s good for the club and the future of the team.”

Zwane and Dolly were Chiefs' standout performers on the day. Zwane showed maturity beyond his years after coming on as a substitute - dominating the midfield battle and driving Chiefs forward.

Both players have left a good impression on coach Zwane with club football set to return next weekend after the current Fifa international break, the youngster could find himself being part of the first team again.

Zwane was not the only Diski Challenge player that featured for Amakhosi on the day. They also had promising striker Wandile Duba.

Duba was influential for Chiefs when they won the Engen knockout challenge, he also played a key role when Chiefs won the DStv Diski Shield Cup in July.
