Defending champions Red Arrows were held in their MTN Super League season opener against Napsa Stars after the teams played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
There was nothing to choose between arrows and newly-promoted Stars, who marked their return to the elite league with a well-earned point on the road.
Last season’s runners-up Zesco United also had a frustrating afternoon after they drew 1-1 at Prison Leopards.
They took a 19-minute lead through new Ugandan signing Alfred Leku, but were pegged back in the second period when Damiano Kola equalised for Leopards on the hour-mark.
By contrast, Zanaco got their season off to the perfect start with a 1-0 away win at Chambishi as Abraham Siankombo got the only goal of the game on 62 minutes.
Power Dynamos also got that winning feeling on the opening weekend as they claimed a 1-0 success at Nkwazi, with their new recruit Jacob Kaunda on target with a beautiful curling effort in stoppage time at the end of the game.
There was also a big win for newly promoted Lamwana Radiants, who had to come from a goal behind but beat Green Eagles 3-1.
Hosea Silwimba put Eagles in front in the first half, but three goals in five minutes in the second period swung the game in Radiants’ favour.
First Benjamin Mukanda equalised, before Abraham Kanyanga and Kapembwa Musonda sealed the three points.
Another promoted side, Muza, took an early lead through Andrew Phiri against Green Buffaloes, but the visitors struck back through Golden Mashata with nine minutes remaining on the clock.
In the final fixture on Saturday, Forest Rangers and Kansanshi Dynamos played to a 0-0 draw.
