The Motsepe Foundation Championship will commence this weekend, as Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars look to apply pressure on Polokwane City who sit at the summit of the table.
Friday’s action will get underway in the Mother City, as Cape Town Spurs welcome Hungry Lions to the Athlone Stadium. The Urban Warriors are currently in 6th spot after 11 games played and have a game in hand. As for Hungry Lions, the visiting outfit go into the fixture occupying third spot, having accumulated 22 points from 12 games so far.
In rounding off Friday’s games, JDR Stars will take on bottom of the log Pretoria Callies at the Soshanguve stadium.
Callies are among the poorest forming teams in the league, winning one in their last five Motsepe Foundation Championship games. Meanwhile JDR Stars are in the running to claim a promotion spot in 5th place on the table.
On Saturday, Casric Stars and Platinum City Rovers will take the pitch at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium. In what is one of the fixtures of the weekend, both teams are currently on a three match winning streak. For Casric Stars, the Mpumalanga club are just three points away from Rise and Shine in second spot on the league table.
Over in Limpopo, Black Leopards and Venda Football Academy do battle in a bottom of the table clash at the Thohoyandou Stadium. In 14th and 15th place respectively, Leopards and Venda have amassed just 10 points after 12 games and will seek to avoid the dreaded relegation play-off zone.
Then, the University of Pretoria will host Baroka at the Tuks Stadium, as both sides look to overcome their recent run of poor results. Tuks and Baroka are winless in their last five Motsepe Foundation Championship games, with victories being hard to come by.
Elsewhere, All Stars will welcome TTM to the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday and will look to put their name in the hat of teams battling it out for PSL promotion. All Stars are currently in 4th spot with 19 points, while TTM linger in 9th with 16 points after 12 matches on the board.
In rounding off the latest grouping of Motsepe Foundation Championship games, Magesi will take on MM Platinum at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, while 8th place Uthongathi go toe-to-toe with league leaders Polokwane City at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
