Following action at both ends in the Motsepe Foundation Championship table this week, both Magesi and Marumo Gallants recorded crucial victories in their search for success this season.

In what was a key fixture in South Africa’s first division this weekend, top-of-the-table Magesi travelled to the Tuks stadium on Saturday where they bagged a 1-0 win against second-placed University of Pretoria.

Magesi have now opened up a five-point gap over AmaTuks with there being five games left to play as the race for automatic promotion heats up. Elsewhere, Marumo Gallants’ 1-0 win against Maritzburg United at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Friday afternoon saw the Limpopo side bag their first victory in the league since 14 February.

After ending their six-match winless streak, Gallants moved up to 15th position on the table, two points behind Venda Football Academy.

Then, promotion-chasing Orbit College ended the weekend on a frustrating note after sharing the spoils with La Masia following a 1-1 draw at the Olympia Park Stadium on Sunday.

The result saw Orbit College drop down to fifth on the league table, while extending their winless streak to five games in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
