Orbit College remained the only team with a 100 per cent record in the Motsepe Foundation Championship following a busy weekend of action in South Africa’s second-tier division.

Orbit made it four wins from as many matches since the start of the season thanks to a thrilling 3-2 triumph over hosts Upington City at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Willie Nel and Carl Lark netted for Upington, while Orbit’s strikes came via Mbulelo Wagaba, Kadi Moleleki and Siyabulela Mabele.

Orbit enjoy a two-point cushion at the top of the table over nearest chasers Magesi FC, who were 2-0 winners over Black Leopards (thanks to goals from Bafedile Baloyi and Mcedi Vandala) on Saturday, while Maritzburg United are a point further back in third after they were held 0-0 away to Baroka FC on Sunday.

The round, which opened on Friday with a 0-0 draw between Pretoria Callies and JDR Stars, also saw Marumo Gallants defeat Milford FC 1-0 (with a goal from Cyrille Nguessan) to see the latter remain pointless this season.

Venda FC edged Platinum City Rovers 1-0 thanks to Athini Jodwana’s strike, Casric Stars claimed a second win of the season by defeating Hungry Lions 2-0 (via goals from Parsly Fielies and Ofentse Thloloe), and University of Pretoria and NB La Masia played out a goalless stalemate on Sunday.

The MFC continues with a full round of fixtures on 29-30 September.
