Milford, Durban City hit the ground running in MFC opener

With South African football well and truly underway, the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship commenced this past weekend with the likes of Milford and Durban City collecting maximum points in their initial league assignments.

Milford, who made the trip to the Thohoyandou Stadium this weekend, came away with an efficient 2-0 victory against Venda Football Academy on Saturday and subsequently took their place at the top of the table.

Then, Durban City FC, previously known as Maritzburg United, came from a goal down to bag a 2-1 victory against Casric Stars at the Chatsworth Stadium on Friday afternoon.

JDR Stars also added their name to the winning column this weekend following a 1-0 victory over Upington City at the popular Soshanguve’s Giant Stadium on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers Highbury FC and Kruger United were welcomed into the league with 1-1 draws against Black Leopards and Hungry Lions respectively, while the University of Pretoria and Cape Town Spurs shared the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate at the Tuks Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
