Cape Town Spurs climbed to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend, following their 2-0 victory against Platinum City Rovers at Athlone Stadium on Friday afternoon.
All eyes were on Spurs, Polokwane City and Casric Stars in South Africa’s first division this weekend, as the race for PSL promotion heats up.
Despite being a man short for much of the encounter, following a red card to Morne Nel in the 30th minute, goals from Therlo Moosa and Asanele Velebayi ensured Spurs three crucial points at home.
In losing ground at the top of the table, Polokwane City recorded a frustrating 0-0 draw against JDR Stars at the Soshanguve Stadium on Friday afternoon. The stalemate saw Rise and Shine drop to third spot, two points behind the new log leaders.
Casric Stars, on the other hand, secured maximum points in a hard-fought 1-0 win over the University of Pretoria on Saturday. In bouncing back from their defeat to Spurs last week, Casric Stars are now level on points with the Urban Warriors (53) and occupy second spot by goal difference.
