Upington City close in on Orbit College

Upington City kept up their momentum in the title charge for the Motsepe Foundation Championship as they impressively beat JDR Stars 3-1 on Saturday at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium.

Carl Lark opened the scoring for Upington City in the third minute and JDR Stars levelled the score in the 20th.

The Bafana Ba Gucci side showed sheer determination and scored two more goals through Keletso Makgalwa to win all three points, narrowing the gap between themselves and league leaders Orbit College to two points.

Orbit College, who were looking for a win since losing their last two matches across all competitions were held to a 1-1 draw against Magesi, sharing the spoils and taking home a point.

Maritzburg United and Gallants played to a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Thohoyandou Stadium, leaving both teams in ninth and 12th place respectively.

Elsewhere, Pretoria Callies were defeated 1-0 by Platinum City Rovers on Friday and found themselves remaining in the second last standings on the log, recording their fifth loss of the season.

Baroka FC, who were looking to get back on form after suffering their first defeat since Dan Malesela took over as head coach, grabbed a point against AmaTuks.

The Limpopo team scored a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time to make the fulltime score 1-1 at the Global Stadium on Sunday.
