Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs gained ground at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Wednesday afternoon, as the recent game week came to an exciting conclusion.

To begin with, Uthongathi ended their four-match losing streak by recording a 2-0 victory against Baroka at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

In doing so, Uthongathi climbed into eighth spot on the Motsepe Foundation Championship table, while Baroka continued their inconsistent run of results.

Then, Hungry Lions failed to make ground on the likes of JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs at the high end of the table, after their 1-1 draw with Pretoria Callies at Windhoek Draught Park.

While Hungry Lions occupy fifth spot on the log, the result saw Callies record their fourth straight draw in the league.

Casric Stars dropped two massive points in their pursuit of automatic PSL promotion this week, following a frustrating 1-1 draw against Platinum City Rovers at Olen Park.

Heading into the recent game week, Casric Stars were level on points with Polokwane (37), however Rise and Shine showcased their grit in a dramatic 2-1 win over All Stars at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Taking their tally to 40 points, Polokwane City thus pipped Casric Stars to top spot on the MFC log, while Cape Town Spurs edged closer to the summit of the table.

The Urban Warriors hosted TTM at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday afternoon and were made to work for their three points.

In going up 2-0 midway through the first-half, TTM fought back and levelled matters before the stroke of halftime. Boitumelo Radiopane then popped up with 15 minutes to go and gave the Western Cape side a valuable lead.

Coach Shaun Bartlett and company are now just one point away from second and trail Polokwane City by three points.

Elsewhere, Black Leopards remain at the bottom of the pile, following their frustrating 0-0 stalemate against JDR Stars at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Wednesday.

Leopards are currently among the poorest performing teams in the division and are winless in their last 12 league encounters.
