Second-tier opponents for Chiefs, Bucs in Nedbank Cup

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns will host Stellenbosch FC in the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup, while both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates face sides from the GladAfrica Championship.

The Nedbank Cup has a new look this year after the South African Football Association were unable to supply the eight clubs from their structures that usually make up the Last 32.

This is due to a suspension of amateur football in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

That means the first round field is made up by the 16 DStv Premiership clubs and all 16 of the GladAfrica Championship, rather than the usual eight from the latter competition.

Sundowns will start their defence with a tricky tie against Stellies, though they have already beaten Steve Barker’s side 3-0 in the league this season.

Chiefs will host Richards Bay from the second-tier in their Last 32 game, while Orlando Pirates face another side from KwaZulu-Natal in Uthongathi.

SuperSport United will travel to TTM having already defeated the Limpopo side 3-2 in the MTN8 quarterfinals, while Cape Town City entertain Bloemfontein Celtic in another all-Premiership encounter.

There will also be a Durban Derby as Lamontville Golden Arrows host AmaZulu, while 2019 winners TS Galaxy host TS Sporting in a battle between two teams from Mpumalanga.

The matches are scheduled to be played in the first week of February, with the Premier Soccer League to announce the exact dates, venues and kick-off times in due course.
