Cape Town Spurs will take on the University of Pretoria in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday evening at the Tuks Stadium. The fixture is a Round of 32 clash, which will see the winner progress to the next round of the knockout competition. Kick off is at 7pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).

CURRENT FORM

Cape Town Spurs are currently on a high after grabbing a rare 3-1 win against AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership. However, there’s still a mountain to climb for the club if they are to escape relegation as they are still at the bottom of the league with a tally of seven points.

AmaTuks have won two out of their three last matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and currently find themselves occupying first position on the log, with one point clear. Their last victory was a 2-1 win against fifth placed Upington City. The quest for promotion is a priority for the team who have played in the South African top-flight before.

WHAT WAS SAID:

Urban Warriors head coach Ernst Middendorp has expressed that his team might be chasing the impossible when it comes to survival in the DStv Premiership. As for the Nedbank Cup tie, Middendorp admitted that the injuries that they are currently dealing with have posed a challenge.

“We need these guys [who are injured], there’s no doubt about it, but everybody needs to step up and do the right stuff,” he said.

AmaTuks head coach Tlisane Motaung spoke about how squad issues in the past have hindered the team but things are looking better now.

“I believe this time around we have assembled a good enough squad that we can be competitive in all competitions,” said Motaung.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Maselaelo Seanego, University of Pretoria - The player signed to AmaTuks after he parted ways with Marumo Gallants on a free transfer. The former Orlando Pirates winger is anticipated to put on a good show in the match.

Ashley Cupido, Cape Town Spurs - Having scored a brace in the Urban Warriors’ last match, Cupido will be a key player in the attack and will be expected to continue his goal scoring form in the Nedbank Cup clash.
